Other Gods is a play set in a fantasy world in which there are ten gods whose existence is almost impossible to deny – gods Tom has devoted his life to.
Tom is a priest in the small country town of Brodselo. He is dealing with dwindling church attendance and a personal sense of ennui. He is also grappling with the fact that, despite having sworn a vow of celibacy, he has fallen in love with Marina - a woman from the nearby city of Drevnigrad. They live in a tumultuous time, when norms and values are being questioned - especially by Marina. Despite his traditional occupation and his allegiance to a conservative institution, Tom is fascinated by all the upheaval.
Everything comes to a head when a woman in town is accused of using magic - the one thing the gods are said to abhor above all else. When Tom saves the accused witch from an angry mob, his loyalties and his own sense of self are stretched to breaking point.
Part romance, part fantasy, part political drama, this play uses an unusual setting to consider questions that are piercingly relevant to us today.
